Evaluation

Over this assignment which lasted a couple of months, turned out to be quite interesting.  it included a wide variety of people and some films that I have never heard of, so was quite nice to see to something new. Some of these were very interesting people and some so not, but gave me insight into various areas over the art industry and what it out there in exhibitions..
Our first contextual study started off with a documentary about William Egglestone where we had to take notes as the film went on about Egglestone. This was far by the more interesting one out all over the couple off sessions we had as I had looked into this photographer on different project and loved his work, so I found that it was very interesting and that’s why I probably wrote the most about him and to a high standard as it was my area of interest. The next week after that we had a photographer come in called David Severn, who was there giving a speech about his work and his recent project to do with mining history and that alone was very intriguing. He also went on about giving us tips on websites to look at. As him being a photographer It was easy taken notes and writing up about him but from then on we had mix of more contemporary artists. I found this more of a challenge to understand as it was all new to me and didn’t understand there practices a lot as I never done or looked into contemporary art before, so I struggled to produce a decent  review on most of them.  and for the films, that was just as challenging as we had to write about them and didn’t know what to write, especially the Amelie one but the Rankin documentary was interesting as it showed a lot the background work of taken a studio fashion image.
But I gave it my all on this assignment even though this type of working environment of taken notes and written them up and evaluating certain individuals and their work is far by weakness as I struggle to start of how to structure it and what to include but I think I did reasonably well, not the strongest assignment I have done but it was more written work. I am not going to lie and say I thoroughly enjoyed this assignment, I enjoyed it for the first few weeks but when artists started coming in and talking about their sculptures or doing weird performing art, I struggled to see the point of it all as it seemed so irrelevant to me and my future needs. They were interesting for sure and opened my eyes but it wasn’t for me and felt my time was a little wasted at points.

To conclude and sum up this assignment, it was interesting way of working and nice to attend the talks but it was a task for me to keep up with all the work needed completing for it, I will be lucky if I even pass this assignment as I am disappointed with the work I produced as it just seems not strong of enough but that is more down to I didn’t write grasp what was expected and fully understand what and who I was writing about. Maybe next time I would ask for more help but I don’t like to. But it’s done now and yeah glad it’s over.
